Unpack – Privacy Policy

Summary: Unpack does not persist user content or session state. We do not store your problem statements, questions, or any content you enter. Your input is processed transiently within your ChatGPT session. We collect anonymized usage analytics to improve the service. Any conversation history is managed by OpenAI according to their policies.

2. What Unpack Does
Unpack is a facilitated brainstorming tool that helps you:
Formulate a clear problem statement
Generate questions about your problem
See your questions clustered by theme
Unpack runs entirely within ChatGPT. It does not have its own backend database or user accounts.
3. Data Controller
Unpack acts as a data controller only for anonymized usage analytics described in Section 5. Unpack does not act as a data controller for conversation content processed within ChatGPT.
OpenAI acts as the data controller for ChatGPT interactions and content. Please refer to OpenAI's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your data.
4. Data We Process
When you use Unpack, you may enter free-text input such as problem descriptions and questions. This input may contain personal data.
How we handle this data:
Your input is processed transiently to generate structured output (clusters, themes)
Processing occurs within your ChatGPT session only
Unpack does not store or retain any of your input content
We do not create user accounts or profiles
We do not use cookies
5. Usage Analytics
To improve Unpack, we collect anonymized usage data:
Flow events (e.g., session started, questions clustered, focus selected)
Aggregate counts (e.g., number of questions, number of clusters)
Error events for debugging
We do NOT log:
Your problem statements or questions
The content of your brainstorming session
Any personally identifiable information
This data is processed by Better Stack, our logging provider, with servers located in the EU. Analytics data is retained for up to 30 days and then automatically deleted, or earlier if logs are rotated or deleted for operational reasons. The lawful basis under GDPR is legitimate interest in improving our service.
6. Lawful Basis for Processing
Transient processing of input: Legitimate interest in delivering the brainstorming functionality you have requested.
Usage analytics: Legitimate interest in improving our service quality and understanding usage patterns.
7. Third-Party Processing
Unpack operates within OpenAI's ChatGPT platform and uses the following third-party services:

OpenAI may process and store conversation data according to their own policies, including for safety monitoring and service improvement. Unpack has no control over OpenAI's data practices.
Better Stack (Usage Analytics) Anonymized usage events are sent to Better Stack for analytics. Better Stack processes this data in the EU. No user content or personally identifiable information is included in these logs.
8. Data Retention
Your input content: Not retained. Once your session ends, no content persists on Unpack's side.
Usage analytics: Retained for up to 30 days, then automatically deleted, or earlier if logs are rotated or deleted for operational reasons.
ChatGPT conversation history: Managed by OpenAI according to their retention policies.
9. Your Rights
Under GDPR and other applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:
Access your data
Request correction or deletion
Object to processing
Data portability
Since Unpack does not store your input content or personal data, requests for access, correction, or deletion of such data cannot be fulfilled by Unpack — there is no content data for us to provide or delete.

10. Children's Privacy
Unpack is not intended for users under the minimum age required to use ChatGPT under OpenAI's Terms. We do not knowingly process information from children.
11. Security
All communication between your browser and ChatGPT is encrypted via HTTPS. Since Unpack does not store user content, there is no content data at rest to secure on our end. Usage analytics are transmitted securely to Better Stack over HTTPS.
12. International Users
Unpack is available globally through ChatGPT.
Your input: Processed on OpenAI's infrastructure, which may be located outside your country of residence.
Usage analytics: Processed by Better Stack in the EU.

13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if Unpack's functionality changes. Updates will be reflected in the "Effective Date" and "Version" at the top of this page.
